Bakul Tree

Bakul or Molshree is a widely recognized tree species in India, known by various names. Moreover, it is a medium-sized evergreen tree commonly found in tropical forests across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia. The timber derived from this tree holds significant value. Furthermore, Molshree bears fruits that serve as a source of food for birds and animals. Its large size also provides ample shade, keeping the ground cool beneath it. Notably, it is an excellent tree for carbon fixing. Additionally, different parts of the tree are utilized in medicine. The tree produces seeds in the form of berries, ranging in color from brown to red. It is included as part of a set of trees provided to farmers, who can cultivate them on their lands. Once mature, the trees can be harvested and sold in the market, thereby enhancing the economic status of the farmers.

Value to the farmer

The Bakul tree exhibits remarkable efficiency in fixing carbon, making it highly beneficial for the environment. Its wood possesses a high density, resulting in a substantial amount of carbon being sequestered. Furthermore, when the tree reaches maturity, it can be harvested and sold in the market. This allows for the opportunity to plant new saplings in its place, ensuring a continuous cycle of growth. Moreover, the cultivation of this tree significantly improves the economic status of the farmers, offering them an avenue for enhanced income and prosperity.

Plant a Tree of Molshree (Bakul): About the Project

Once the farmers receive the Bakul tree saplings, they will be equipped with the necessary technical knowledge to successfully cultivate them. The project, being a long-term initiative, ensures continuous support to the farmers for a duration of 3 years. Additionally, the farmers will have the opportunity to join a group, where they will be motivated by the explanation of the various benefits they can obtain through growing these trees. Furthermore, these trees will be a valuable addition to the set provided to the farmers, contributing significantly to the improvement of their economic status.

Technology

The Bakul trees in the project are geotagged, ensuring their precise location. Furthermore, the area boundary is accurately marked using GPS technology. Moreover, farmer details, including images, are recorded and stored through mobile apps directly from the field. All the data captured, including the carbon fixing that occurs yearly, is meticulously calculated using equations developed by experts for different species. This data is stored and analyzed, maintaining total transparency in the process of data collection, storage, and analysis.

Impact assessment

The team actively measures the impact it creates on wildlife and farmers. All relevant data is captured at regular intervals, and this data is then analyzed by comparing it with the previous data collected on the same parameters a few months ago. Moreover, the change observed is measured against the planned results to evaluate the effectiveness of the project. In addition, this analysis helps in identifying any deviations and making necessary adjustments to achieve the desired outcomes. Furthermore, this ongoing monitoring and evaluation process ensures the project’s success and enables continuous improvement.

Reports

The project reports are prepared and sent to the contributors. The report covers the following

1) Trees status as of the last visit made

2) Any mortality in the trees planted

3) Carbon fixed in MT from the start of the project

4) Economic impact on the farmers.

5) Ecological impact created.
